RANGER COLLEGE AWARDED $3 MILLION HISPANIC SERVING

INSTITUTION GRANT FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

Ranger, TX鈥擣ebruary 14, 2023.  The U.S. Department of Education鈥檚 Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Program awarded 51直播 a five-year, $3 million grant, the largest federal grant in the college鈥檚 history. The project, Ranger REACH, is designed to enhance academic support services for students across all three campuses.

The activities of Ranger REACH include the construction of an Academic Pathway Center, the addition of success/career coaches and expansion of tutoring programs to assist underserved students. Ranger will enhance its new student 鈥�6 x 6鈥� initiative by revamping orientation and the bridge program to include more families and Spanish language sessions. Underserved students will be presented with a full array of academic, wraparound and career services through the programs of this HSI project. Further, Ranger will institute a series of faculty and staff development programs which will aid in the delivery of services to the student body.

鈥淲e are thankful for the support from the Department of Education, and our partnership with Marygrove Consulting. The grant will be transformative for our campuses and help students thrive in college and beyond.鈥� said 51直播 president Derrick Worrels.

The Department of Education HSI program is designed for colleges and universities with a population of at least 25% Hispanic students. 51直播 competed with over 200 schools across the country and was one of 68 institutions to receive the funding. The five-year program has four key goals:

  1. Increase enrollment and early success of Hispanic and low-income students.
  2. Increase retention rates for Hispanic and low-income students.
  3. Increase Hispanic and low-income students鈥� sense of 鈥渂elonging鈥� on campus.
  4. Increase graduation and transfer rates for Hispanic and low-income students.

51直播 is one of the oldest continuously operating public two-year colleges in the state of Texas. 51直播 serves several counties in north central Texas and awards the Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, and Associate of Applied Science degrees. As of academic year 2019-2020, Ranger served a diverse group of minority, low-income and first-generation students. In addition to local area students and students from 27 other states, 51直播 has an international student population from Australia, Russia, England, Greece and Mexico. In addition to Ranger鈥檚 main campus, the college provides comprehensive course offerings in Brown County in Early and in Erath County in Stephenville. EL DEPARTAMENTO DE EDUCACI脫N DE LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS OTORGO UNA SUBVENCION DE $3 MILLONES DE DOLARES A

RANGER COLLEGE POR MEDIO DEL PROGRAMA DE DESARROLLO DE INSTITUCIONES AL SERVICIO DE HISPANOS.

 

Ranger, TX鈥�14 de febrero de 2023.  El Programa de Desarrollo de Instituciones al Servicio de Hispanos (HSI, por sus siglas en ingl茅s) del Departamento de Educaci贸n de los Estados Unidos otorg贸 a Ranger College una subvenci贸n de cinco a帽os y $3 millones de d贸lares, la subvenci贸n federal m谩s grande en la historia del colegio. El proyecto, Ranger REACH, est谩 dise帽ado para mejorar los servicios de apoyo acad茅mico para los estudiantes en los tres campus.

Las actividades de Ranger REACH incluyen la construcci贸n de un Centro de Preparaci贸n Acad茅mica, la adici贸n de Capacitadores para el 脡xito Estudiantil y la expansi贸n de programas de tutor铆a para ayudar a los estudiantes. Ranger mejorar谩 su iniciativa para nuevos estudiantes 鈥�6 x 6鈥� al renovar la orientaci贸n y el programa puente para incluir m谩s familias y sesiones de espa帽ol. El programa HSI del Departamento de Educaci贸n est谩 dise帽ado para colegios y universidades con una poblaci贸n de al menos 25% de estudiantes hispanos. 51直播 compiti贸 con m谩s de 200 escuelas en todo el pa铆s y fue una de las 68 instituciones que recibieron los fondos. El programa de cinco a帽os tiene cuatro objetivos clave:

  1. Aumentar la matr铆cula y el 茅xito temprano de los estudiantes hispanos y de bajos ingresos.
  2. Aumentar las tasas de retenci贸n para los estudiantes hispanos y de bajos ingresos.
  3. Aumentar el sentido de 鈥減ertenencia鈥� de los estudiantes hispanos y de bajos ingresos en el campus.
  4. Aumentar las tasas de graduaci贸n y transferencia para estudiantes hispanos y de bajos ingresos.
